U.S. Supreme Court Sides With Religion in Trinity Lutheran Case
In a 7-2 decision, the US Supreme Court today ruled that religious institutions cannot be excluded from otherwise available government benefit programs. The specific case concerned playground surface materials.
This decision could have major implications for state Blaine Amendments. The decision also could undercut the proposal of some in the US Congress to fashion a K-12 scholarship tax credit that would shut out religious scholarship groups unless they agree to secularize.
