National School Choice Advocates Applaud Linda McMahon’s Nomination as Education Secretary

November 22, 2024

Washington D.C. – Today, the Invest in Education Coalition, a national school choice advocacy organization, applauded President-elect Donald Trump for nominating Linda McMahon for Secretary of Education.

According to the coalition, McMahon has been a strong proponent of school choice for America’s K-12 parents and students, stating, “Parents should be able to choose the schools they believe can best educate their kids, whether they are neighborhood schools, private schools, religious schools or charter schools.”

McMahon is co-chair of America First Policy Institute (AFPI), a national organization that has fought for expanding school choice in the states and is part of the coalition supporting the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA).

Anthony J. de Nicola, Chairman of the Invest in Education Coalition, applauded President Trump’s pick to lead the nation’s education department.

“Linda McMahon is a vocal advocate for school choice and will bring demonstrated leadership to improving education for America’s children. Her support for school choice responds decisively to the demands of America’s parents and will help give students the options they need to succeed. We look forward to working with Secretary-designate McMahon and her team to empower parents and put children first.”

Invest in Education Coalition is advocating for the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA), a federal tax credit scholarship bill that would help over one million students access a school or education service of their parents’ choice. Scholarships would be funded with private donations, not federal money, and donors receive a federal tax credit. Students could use scholarships for tuition, tutoring to address learning loss, special needs services, or education technology. The legislation has more than 150 U.S. House co-sponsors and 30 Senate co-sponsors. In September, the ECCA passed out of the House Ways & Means Committee.
