Federal Scholarship Tax Credit based on The Educational Choice for Children Act
(ECCA)

This new federal scholarship tax credit is essential to ensuring that students of all backgrounds and learning levels have access to the learning tools and support that they need to get the most out of their education and prepare for their future.

These new provisions in the tax code will generate billions of dollars in private charitable donations to fund scholarships for use in K-12 education. Scholarships are funded by private donations to non-profit scholarship granting organizations (SGOs) to distribute scholarships to students; donors receive a 100%, $1,700 non-refundable federal income tax credit. The funds could be used to pay for tuition, tutoring, special needs services and education technology, among other eligible uses. Millions of students across America will be able to use the scholarships to attend schools that best meet their educational needs as determined by their parents.

How does the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit help K-12 students?

Expands school choice in all 50 states and complements existing state programs

Testimonials

Now there are states across the country that will never see the benefits of educational choice due to political challenges in their state legislatures. The ECCA will bring this empowerment to these states and they’ll be helped like Florida has in so many ways. It’s for this compelling reason that I urge Congress to pass the ECA or make it a part of the Budget…”

John Kirtley, Chairman of Step Up for Students

“I’ve seen firsthand how impactful and life changing these scholarships have been. They allow students to access the school and education that best fits their needs. And that’s exactly why it’s so exciting to stand up here today and talk about the prospect of the ECCA becoming law.”
