School Choice Remains Top Issue For Latino Voters

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Invest in Education Coalition (IIEC), a national organization dedicated to expanding parental choice in K-12 education for children in all 50 states, launched an ad campaign that will run in Washington D.C., as Members of Congress return to Capitol Hill.

The ad highlights school choice as an issue that resonated across the country with voters in the election last month, specifically with the Latino community. The ad includes a recent statement from Chuck Todd, political commentator for NBC News, regarding the momentum, stating, “There’s one issue in particular actually that Republicans align closer with Latino voters, or Latino voters align more closely with the conservative party, and that’s school choice.”

Invest in Education Coalition (IIEC) is calling on Congress to pass the proposed Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA), a federal tax credit scholarship bill that would enable parents of as many as two million students in grades K-12 across the country to access a school or education service of their choice. Scholarships would be funded with private donations, not federal money, and donors would receive a federal tax credit. Parents could use scholarships for their children’s tuition, tutoring, special needs services, education technology, or curriculum materials. The ECCA is endorsed by a coalition of over 150 national and state advocacy organizations.

President-elect Trump is a vocal supporter of school choice. When asked recently on Fox and Friends whether he would support the proposed Educational Choice for Children Act, he said, “I would sign it. Anything to do with school choice, I’ll support.”

Anthony J. de Nicola, Chairman of Invest in Education Coalition stated,

“School choice should be a top priority for Congress since an overwhelming majority of voters across nearly every demographic group in America – especially parents – support giving families access to the best educational options for their children. We look forward to working with Congress and the Trump administration to get the Educational Choice for Children Act across the finish line.”
