Poll: 74% of Americans Strongly Support School Choice

By a 3-to-1 Margin, Voters Support National School Choice Legislation – the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA)

A new national survey conducted by Fabrizio, Lee & Associates, one of the nation’s premier public opinion research firms who worked on President Trump’s presidential campaigns, revealed strong support for school choice and new federal legislation to give parents more choices when it comes to their child’s education.

Notable results from the survey include:

  • Nearly three quarters (74%) of voters favor School Choice where parents are allowed to choose the public, private or technical trade school they send their children to.
  • Eight out of ten voters (81%) agree that the U.S. should empower parents and prioritize individual students’ needs by providing greater access and more choices to ensure children receive the best education.
  • Sixty-five (65%) percent of voters support the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA), which would allow individuals and businesses to donate to non-profit scholarships so parents can send their children to the public, private or technical trade schools of their choice.

Anthony J. de Nicola, Chairman of Invest in Education Coalition, whose organization is dedicated to advancing federal school choice legislation, reacted to the survey results.

“We know that school choice is an issue that appeals to millions of Americans. The November election of school choice champion President Trump reaffirms the results of this survey that the majority of voters want educational options for their children. It is more important now than ever to prioritize the passage of policies like the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) so that every child can have the opportunity to attend the school that is best for them. It is in the hands of lawmakers to keep the promises they have made to their voters and listen to the desires of the American people and get this done this year,” said de Nicola.

Through the results, poll respondents expressed support for school choice for all students as well as support for national school choice legislation, the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA), a federal tax credit scholarship bill that would enable K-12 parents of as many as two million students across the country to access a school or education service of their choice.

Survey respondents also revealed that most Americans believe that parents should have more of a say in their children’s education:

  • By nearly a 2-to-1 margin, voters believe that parents should be in charge of deciding the best education for U.S. children as opposed to local school boards, teachers’ unions or government.
  • Sixty-five (65%) percent of voters believe that parents should have more of a say in deciding children’s education rather than teachers’ unions.

Through the results of the survey, Hispanic voters showed the strongest support for school choice:

  • Over three-quarters (78%) of Hispanic voters favor School Choice where parents are allowed to choose the public, private or technical trade school they send their children to.
  • Seventy-two (72%) percent of Hispanic voters favor the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA),
  • Eighty-seven (87%) percent of Hispanic voters agree that we should empower parents and prioritize individual students’ needs by providing greater access and more choices to ensure children receive the best education.
