Invest in Education Coalition applauds the House of Representatives for supporting parental choice in K-12 education as part of budget reconciliation

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Invest in Education Coalition (IIEC), a national organization dedicated to advancing school choice at the federal level, commends the House of Representatives for passing a federal tax credit for private donations for K-12 scholarships also known as the Educational Choice for Children Act as part of President Trump’s One, Big, Beautiful Bill. Jason Smith (R-MO-08), as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, played a key role in including the ECCA in the tax package that the Committee passed out last week.

The ECCA was introduced earlier this year by Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE-03) and would expand access to school choice for millions of children nationwide through scholarships funded with private donations, not federal money, and donors would receive a federal tax credit. Students could use scholarships for tuition, tutoring to address learning loss, special needs services, or education technology.

The ECCA has widespread support:

  • Several members of Congress have expressed their support for the ECCA over the past few weeks.
  • During his campaign and following his re-election, President Trump has made his support for school choice clear. Recently he stated in a post, “I’ve made School Choice a priority of my Administration. We need School Choice passed in every State!” And when asked on Fox and Friends whether he would support the proposed ECCA, President-elect Trump said, “I would sign it.”
  • More than 74 percent of Americans strongly support school choice for all students.
  • 72 percent of Hispanic voters favor the ECCA.

“The passage of school choice legislation out of the House is history in the making that brings us one step closer to the ultimate goal of expanding school choice in all 50 states,” said Anthony J. de Nicola, Chairman of the Board of Invest in Education Coalition. “I look forward to the Senate acting on this important legislation and delivering education freedom for K-12 families across the country.
