Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy, national and local school choice groups discuss how the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) would expand Louisiana’s options

Washington, D.C. – Today, Invest in Education Coalition, a national organization dedicated to advancing school choice at the federal level, alongside Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and organizations that provide scholarships for Louisiana families addressed local parents and students in Baton Rouge at a press event, “Empowering Parents.” The press conference focused on the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA), a new federal tax credit scholarship bill, led by Senator Cassidy, that is currently part of President Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” tax package.

As a federal tax credit scholarship bill that would support over one million students and parents, the ECCA would build on these efforts. ECCA would create a federal tax credit to support scholarships funded with private donations, not federal money. Students could use scholarships for tuition, tutoring to address learning loss, special needs services, or education technology.

Education policy leaders spoke at the event in Baton Rouge:

“Every child, regardless of where they live, deserves a chance to succeed,” said Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) “By passing this legislation that I introduced, we can provide more children across the country the opportunity to live their American Dream and empower parents to be in the driver seat of their child’s future.”

“The ECCA is a critical step toward making education accessible to all children, regardless of their ZIP code or income level,” said Ashley Nelson, Vice President of Development at ACE Scholarships. “At ACE, we believe that access to education can change the lives of kids and parents, and this bill would make that a reality.”

“Providing parents and their children with access to opportunity to a quality school of their choice can have a lasting impact in a child’s life and give them a chance at a brighter and better future. It’s time to make this a reality for even more kids across the country,” said Eddie Rispone, ACE Scholarships Advisory Board

A recent survey shows nearly three-quarters of voters favor a tax structure that supports parents as they choose the public, private or technical trade school they send their children to.

Anthony J. de Nicola, Chairman of the Board at Invest in Education Coalition, said:

“Now is the time to make school choice a reality for families across the country, and I am proud to see this bill included in the current budget reconciliation tax package. With the leadership of lead sponsor Senator Bill Cassidy, I look forward to this legislation passing in the Senate and changing the lives of students regardless of their ZIP code.”
