School Choice Champions Advocate for School Choice and the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA)

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Invest in Education Coalition (IIEC), a national organization dedicated to advancing school choice at the federal level, recognized the growing support for nationwide school choice following the introduction of the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA), a federal tax credit scholarship bill that would enable K-12 parents of as many as two million students across the country to access a school or education service of their choice.

School Choice champion President Trump recently stated in a post “I’ve made School Choice a priority of my Administration. We need School Choice passed in every State!” He has also expressed his support for school choice in recent months. When asked recently on Fox and Friends whether he would support the proposed ECCA, President-elect Trump said, “I would sign it. Anything to do with school choice, I’ll support.” Now, the Invest in Education Coalition is encouraging members of Congress to join in the support so that the legislation can be passed this year.

Here is what school choice champions are saying:

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) said“Parents want to see their child succeed. Giving them the ability to make decisions over their child’s education puts that child’s needs first. More freedom empowers parents and allows American children to thrive in school.”

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), said: “When you give parents a choice, you give kids a better chance at achieving their dreams. By empowering families with more education resources and freedom, this bill will unlock opportunities that have been out of reach for students across America who deserve every chance to succeed and a schooling system that fosters their potential.”

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE-03) said“As we celebrate National School Choice Week across America, I urge my colleagues to stand with our nation’s K-12 parents and students and support the Educational Choice for Children Act. This crucial school choice bill will directly empower parents in every ZIP code to choose the school or education service that works best for their children.”

Congressman Burgess Owens (R-UT-04) said“We cannot accept that intellectual and educational failure of our own children is a norm. The Educational Choice for Children Act is a win for families and provides an opportunity for all students to reach their full potential. I look forward to working with my colleagues to provide more educational opportunities to parents and children throughout our country.”

Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) said“No child’s zip code should determine their opportunity to achieve the American Dream and reach their full potential. This legislation would put parents back in the driver’s seat to be empowered to make the best possible choice for their child’s education. I’ll continue to be a vocal advocate for educational freedom that equips families with the tools and resources to make important decisions for their children’s future.”

Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) said“This National School Choice Week, I am reaffirming my commitment to educational freedom and equal opportunity for all American children. A child’s zip code should not dictate their quality of education, and I am proud to cosponsor this legislation ensuring Wyoming’s future leaders, regardless of their educational needs, are set up for success.”

Kellyanne Conway, former senior counselor to President Trump, said“This parents’ rights renaissance has led to over a dozen states enacting universal school choice in the last few years. This year, Congress can send the Educational Choice for Children’s Act to President Trump’s desk to expand school choice to all 50 states and give 2 million students the chance to choose the school that best serves them.”

Congressman John James (R-MI-10) said“The best avenue of prosperity is through education. I particularly want to highlight this path of prosperity through the Educational Choice for Children Act legislation intended to expand education freedom and opportunity for students, and I appreciate our colleague from Nebraska, Mr. Adrian Smith, for leading on these efforts, and I look forward to working with all my colleagues in these months ahead to get this bill for consideration on the House floor. We must continue to prioritize reforms education that expands choice, and the best way to do that is to put parents back in the driver’s seat. I believe firmly that when you give parents a choice you give students a chance.”

Anthony J. de Nicola, Chairman of Invest in Education Coalition, said:

“It is exciting to see the momentum building around school choice and the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA). These school choice champions are using their platforms to advocate for our children’s futures as they understand the importance of empowering parents to make the best decisions for their children. Now is the time for Congress to pass the ECCA so that millions of children across America can access the educational options that are best for them.”
