Kamala Harris’ Anti-School Choice VP Pick

VP Nominee Governor Walz has a track record in prioritizing teachers’ unions over parents and students

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Vice President Kamala Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Like Harris, Governor Walz holds a record of siding with the teachers’ unions and opposing expansion of parental choice in K-12 education.

Invest in Education Coalition, an organization advocating for school choice in education, says the education positions of Vice President Harris and Governor Walz present a stark contrast to former President Donald Trump’s push for more educational options for parents and students in all 50 states.

Anthony J. de Nicola, Chairman of Invest in Education Coalition, highlighted Governor Walz’s focus on prioritizing special interests over parents and students:

“Governor Walz has opposed empowering parents and giving children the opportunity to get the education of their choice and has defended the educational status quo, which has hurt students across the country. We need strong leaders who will fight to expand school choice so that every child, regardless of their ZIP code, has a chance at a great education. Instead, Kamala Harris and her running mate are bankrolled by the teachers’ unions and are prioritizing special interests over parents and their children.”

According to EdChoice, a non-partisan organization advocating for school choice across the country: “Gov. Tim Walz does not have a history of supporting educational choice in Minnesota… He also has a history of declining meetings with educational choice parent advocates.”

Governor Tim Walz has been on record calling school choice programs a “scheme”, despite it being an issue that is supported by more than 70 percent of voters, including large majorities of African American and Hispanic voters.

Invest in Education Coalition will continue to support bold school choice legislation, particularly the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA), a bill that would provide K-12 scholarships for up to two million students across America to attend schools that best meet their educational needs.
